We want to help our clients build a healthy, beautiful, low-carbon world. As an Architecture 2030 Signatory Firm, we have committed to deep energy reductions in all our buildings as a key element of positive cultural impact.
Tom Bassett-Dilley founded TBDA in 2006 to pursue sustainability as contemporary design based on region, climate, and context. Over our nearly 200 projects since then, we have completed new buildings and renovations in frame, masonry, insulated concrete form, structural insulated panel, and modular prefab systems. We are proud to have designed the first certified Passive House projects in the Chicago region, as well as LEED, Green Star, and DOE (Energy Star and Zero Energy Ready) certified projects.
We design for end users seeking quality. Our projects include single- and multi-family residences (new and remodel), historic preservation, institutional buildings (park buildings, schools), and commercial buildings primarily in the Midwest (Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan). In keeping with our mission, a project is a fit if it requires our comprehensive design and energy planning expertise. We work with trusted consultants for landscape architecture, lighting and other specialty design, and structural, mechanical-electrical-plumbing, and civil engineering.
We provide complete services including interior design, space planning, and material specifications with emphasis on low-toxicity, reclaimed and local, energy-efficient, and otherwise sustainable selections.
Passive House Consulting
In our projects we use energy modeling to optimize design through conservation. We also provide Passive House modeling using WUFI-Passive for other design teams seeking PHIUS certification and support for Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation Net Zero Energy Building Grant Program.
