Bloomington Passive Homestead

TBDA’s first Indiana Phius-certified house was envisioned as the heart of a resilient homestead. Rainwater is harvested on site (there was no municipal water, and the site was not conducive to wells), the garage features a solar array with backup batteries, and the site is developed with a permaculture of crops and livestock. Meanwhile, the hillside site provides excellent vistas and indoor-outdoor connections. Early coordination with the builder was key, and the builder took the opportunity to become Certified Passive House Builder through Phius training.
